The story of the song
“Stuck on You” is the title song of Bobby Caldwell’s 1991 album, a lush ballad he wrote with his longtime collaborator Henry Marx. Recorded with a full orchestra, it pointed toward the standards albums that would define the next stage of his career.

Bobby grew up on Frank Sinatra and the great standards, and “Stuck on You” is where that side of him first moved to the center of an album. Accounts of the session describe a 60-piece orchestra that included musicians who had played with Sinatra and Tony Bennett. A Japanese review of the album said the song has a classic feel that recalls the 1940s.
The album came out first in Japan on March 6, 1991, under the title Solid Ground, and was then released in the US on Bobby’s own Sin-Drome label as Stuck on You. It reached No. 5 on Billboard’s jazz albums chart and returned him to the R&B album chart. The album’s players included Dave Koz, Richard Elliot, John Patitucci and the Tower of Power horns.
Five years later, the song appeared again on Blue Condition, Bobby’s 1996 album of standards, where it sits comfortably beside “Angel Eyes” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.”
