Bobby Caldwell's live performances are always electrifying! Drawing from his vast repertoire of rousing R&B, intimate smooth jazz stylings, and big band songs, Bobby is afforded the ability to entertain at any venue, for fans of all ages. In Japan and throughout Asia, he enjoys a feverish popularity, selling out shows and achieving gold and platinum status for his releases in those countries. In addition to heavy touring, Bobby starred as Frank Sinatra in the David Cassidy/Don Reo theatrical production "The Rat Pack Is Back" in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bobby received rave reviews for his performance, both from industry critics and from his loyal fans.
Major motion picture and television credits have brought Bobby's music to even broader audiences. His original composition, "The Girl I Dream About" was included in Hillary Duff's film, "The Perfect Man", and in Charlie Matthau’s film, “Her Minor Thing” and in “Simone”, starring Al Pacino. Previously, his rendition of "Beyond The Sea" was selected by actor/director Joe Mantegna as the opening theme for his directorial debut "Lakeboat." The song fit so well with the movie that Mantegna commissioned Bobby to compose an original piece, "(Oh Boy!) You've Got It Made," as the closing theme. "Beyond The Sea," along with "All The Way" and "The Girl I Dream About" are also featured in the motion picture "My First Mister" starring Albert Brooks and directed by Christine Lahti. "I've Got The World On A String" was used in "Hearts In Atlantis" starring Anthony Hopkins. "Luck Be A Lady" is the featured track in the movie "The Cooler," starring William H. Macy, Alec Baldwin, and Paul Sorvino. In January 2007 listen for Bobby’s song, “Donna,” in “The Amateurs” starring Jeff Bridges.
In light
of this success, Bobby's has released two
greatest hits collections. The first is entitled
Timeline, featuring Bobby's original recordings
of his own best known work. The second is
entitled Time & Again, which encompasses
Bobby's hits that were made popular by other
artists, as well as two brand new songs.
Both have gone onto become best selling titles
in his discography, not only pleasing his
longtime fans, but exposing a new generation
of listeners to his time-tested sound.
Born in Manhattan and raised in Memphis and Miami, Bobby came from a
show business family. His mother and father both sang and were the hosts
of one of the first musical variety programs on television, "Suppertime." Bobby
grew up listening to show tunes, the music of Frank Sinatra, Nat King
Cole, as well as songs that featured the arrangements of Billy May, Don
Costa, and Nelson Riddle. These early influences are prevalent in Bobby's
singing and songwriting.
With a fan base that dates from his first hits "What You Won't Do
For Love," "Next Time I Fall," and "Heart Of Mine," Bobby
appeals to a large and diverse crowd. R&B fans of his earlier "blue-eyed
soul" chart toppers, youngsters who listen to urban contemporary,
and older fans of the classic song stylists are in agreement that whatever
Bobby Caldwell sings, be it thoroughly heart-rending, brimming with swaggering
confidence, or potently sensual, his superb vocal mastery solidifies
his position of pre-eminence amongst his contemporaries.
Last year, Bobby released his long-awaited, blue-eyed soul album, Perfect
Island Nights. The collection, featuring 12 brand new tracks, is the
natural extension of his best-selling recording, Soul Survivor. True
to the mood its title suggests, Perfect Island Nights is a warm and inspiring
trip that offers the sounds and styles Bobby's fans have come to adore.
There are timeless new songs such as the contemporary R&B pop of "In
The Afterlife," the tropical-tinged "Donna" and the soaring
balladry of "Crazy For Your Love," that are rippling with the
sweet harmonies and lush arrangements for which Bobby's known and celebrated
worldwide.
